Journal/Dinner 5779 March 10, 2019

Dear Young Israel of Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale Members:
We are pleased to announce the honorees for our 37th Annual Journal Dinner. Stephen & Roni Kurtz will be our Guests of Honor, Tsachi & Dr. Jessica Baitner will be presented with the Distinguished Service Award, Stephen Clements will receive the Presidential Leadership Award, and Jessica Schultz will receive the inaugural Founders Award.
Stephen and Roni Kurtz moved to Hollywood in 1996, and immediately became involved in building our community.  Steve took on leadership roles beginning as a Gabbai, and soon became an integral part of the shul.  He served on the Board of Directors for eight years, focusing on ensuring that resources were available for the growth of our Hollywood community.  He also served as chair of the Youth Department, and member of the Executive Committee as Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President. Steve proudly led our shul as President from 2013 to 2015. Roni has impacted hundreds of our Young Israel families through her leadership at Brauser Maimonides Academy as the Early Childhood Principal. They are proud to have contributed to our Young Israel community and are amazed at the incredible growth they have seen over the last 22 years.
Lovingly regarded by many as the Mayor of Hollywood, Tsachi Baitner has served and continues to serve our congregation wearing many different hats. He has been a long-standing Board member. He also served as the chairman of our Welcoming Committee, and is an active member of the Finance and Kol Nidre committees.  Raised in Hollywood and a lifelong member of our congregation, Jessica has been involved in numerous capacities over the years, most notably leading the shul’s legendary annual Panoply. She also regularly hosts speakers and youth events, including the popular New Member’s Events and Sukkah Hop.
Stephen Clements served as shul president from 2005 to 2007. Steve has worked tirelessly for our shul chairing multiple search committees and serving in various positions on the Executive Board.  During his presidency, he inaugurated unique programming and new minyanim. The growth of our community has benefited tremendously from Steve's impact since his family's arrival in 1994.
This year we are introducing the Founders Award, which will recognize those who greatly contributed to the early development of our congregation. The first recipient of this award is Jessica Schultz. Our congregation’s first home was in Jessica’s house and thus she is very deserving of this honor.
The 37th Annual Journal is being prepared in conjunction with the dinner which will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at The Club of Emerald Hills. In addition to recognizing our honorees, you may want to pay tribute to a special friend or memorialize a loved one. We also hope you will join us in soliciting ads from friends, family and business associates.  Two complimentary dinner tickets will be yours for the first $1000 raised in ads.  This makes it very easy for everyone to attend the dinner- a beautiful and fun affair not to be missed.
This is a crucial fundraising effort which supports the ongoing programs and continued expansion of our Young Israel.
Please join us on Sunday evening, March 10th to celebrate with our honorees and the Young Israel family.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
Sincerely,
Journal Chairs
